Celebrating Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month, I thought I'd share some links to black dancers, writers, artists and musicians whose creative works have changed our world for the better.  Zadie Smith, Alvin Ailey and Etta James have added meaning and beauty to my life. Click on the links below for reminders of who might have added something good to your life.

Congratulations!

We recently heard a trademark success story from Judy Sarvis, owner of our former client, Hammer & Tuffy's Granola LLC. Judy informed us that one of the federal trademark registrations we helped Hammer & Tuffy's obtain in 2016 was key to their acquisition last July by Australian health and snack food company, Annex Foods ( www.annexfoods.com.au).

Our client's U.S. trademark registration was for "Red Tractor Raisin Blend" granola. In 2013, Annex launched the Red Tractor brand in Australia. When Annex decided to expand its launch into the United States, however, they ran into the "problem" of the Red Tractor trademark registration. Rather than fight our client for it (which would have been a losing battle), Annex decided to join forces with Hammer & Tuffy's Granola and acquire the company along with the trademark.

The Red Tractor brand has grown to become a highly respected Australian health food brand and is now available in more than 10 countries. Judy now acts as Annex Foods U.S. liaison. Well done in getting that trademark, Judy! It's a lesson to us all about the value trademark assets can bring to a business.
